Bachmann log car with resin extensions. I added the extensions from Landrel Brown, OM link and pin couplers. The car was painted gray from a rattle can and then stained using Hunterline Medium Brown stain. The car is weathered with pastels and weathering powders.. This photo was taken before I added the link and pin couplers.
Gondola #374 – Kitbashed from Bachmann Gold Circle 4 board gondola. Ozark Miniature detail parts, Kadee couplers. Coal load with real coal glued to a foam insert.
Gondola #375 – started out as an Aristocraft flatcar with cable load. I purchased it at an auction with one of the cable spools missing. A year or so later, I purchased a Delton gondola sides casting at a swap meet. I removed the remaining spools and added the casting to the flatcar and added grab irons, turnbuckles, cut levers and chains, brake hoses and chains, Kadee couplers and a gravel load made from foam and ballast. and . I painted the car with Floquil engine black and lettered it with Walthers decals. The car was weathered by spraying diluted white paint (1 parts paint to 9 parts thinner) to fade the paint and lettering. I followed the fade with dust colored paint (again thinned 9:1) along the bottom of the car. Rust paint and weathering powders were used to weather the couplers. Gray and rust colored Pan pastels were used to complete the weathering on the car.
Flatcars #216, 274 & 291
Three Bachmann flatcars have been in various stages of paint, detail and weathering. I decided to live with the Bachmann details except for the cut levers and brake wheels. I added OM brake wheels and ratchets. The cut levers are brass wire with TD cut lever brackets. The brake hoses, etc are OM as well as the chains. The couplers are Kadee and are the appropriate size since the ET&WNC used standard gauge couplers. The wood decks were painted with Vallejo wood, deck tan and German black brown paints with a ABTEILUNG 502 Oil Paint Ghost Grey oil paint wash. I weathered the cars with powders from Bragdon and Monroe Models.
